Ureteroscopy (URS) is a modern, minimally invasive procedure used to treat stones located in the ureter (the tube connecting the kidney to the bladder). This procedure uses a thin, flexible or rigid ureteroscope inserted through the urinary passage to directly visualize and remove or break the stone using laser energy.

What is Ureteroscopy?

During ureteroscopy, no cuts or stitches are made. The surgeon passes a small scope through the urethra and bladder into the ureter to locate the stone. A laser (usually Holmium laser) is then used to break the stone into small fragments, which are either removed or allowed to pass naturally.

Indications for Ureteroscopy:
